In Loving Memory of

Betty Lou Dentler

(Aug. 9, 1941 - Jul. 28, 2006)

Our mom, Betty Lou Dentler lived in Abilene for over 39 years and will always be remembered as a loving mother, granny, and friend. She loved going to church on Sundays and taking her grandchildren with her. She was a modest, quiet, hardworking devoted woman that lived life for God and her family. She loved the family getting together, on holidays she would always cook the most delicious meals, the holiday meal was always prepared with everyone getting something cooked especially for them by Granny.

Our mom was always there for her children and grandchildren, she was only a phone call away. She was there at the emergency room when any family member was being treated, she was there when the grandkids just wanted her to take them to get a hershey bar.

I remember when she received a call to get to the emergency room because Russell my youngest brother had been electricuted by 550 and it caused him to drop from a 30 ft pole, approx. 2 months later she received a call that Russell was being flown to Ft. Worth, his back was shattered in pieces because he was attached at the top of a pole and the pole broke at the ground, he fell attached to the pole 46 1/2 ft. she sat by his bedside and prayed for his healing.

When I was in 11th grade we were having a mother daughter-tea and I had found a beautiful pink outfit at our local mall. In my mind I didn't want to burden my mother with the expense of buying this outfit for the mother-daughter tea. The evening before the mother-daughter tea when I came home on my bed was this beautiful pink outfit, I asked my mom, how did you know I wanted it, she replied I just thought you'd like it, but later on she told me that she had over heard a friend and myself talking about the pink outfit.

My brother Dale survived a lifetime of medical problems due to diabetes our mother did not give up when she was told one night that he was going to die from bronchial pneumonia she stayed at the hospital by his bedside and prayed for his healing just as she did when he had his kidney transplant and numerous heart surgeries.

The last week of her life she had spoke to Vicky my older sister about her surgery that she would be having in order to remove a 25.7 lb tumor in her stomach, our mother had planned on making the trip to California to be with her during that surgery. A trip to Vernon would be our mother's last, she had bought Russell a new Bible and wanted to get it to him since it was reported that he would be evaluated for 12 months at Vernon State Hospital. After my mother was killed, Russell was allowed to come home from Vernon for the funeral service and was never returned to Vernon, therefore he was only at Vernon for 29 days.

My mother never smoked and never chewed a piece a gum, her autopsy revealed she had an incredible set of natural teeth. She raised four children by herself working two and three jobs to make ends meet. We never hurt for nothing. All four of us kids knew that we could always depend on our mom to be there for us, whether it be for discipline, love or that special look she used to give us when we did something she didn't approved of.

Our mom would help anyone, you didn't have to be her child or grandchild, just someone in need. She always had an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on and a place for someone to stay. The last three years of her life she was broken hearted over the tragedy her family had to suffer through.

I received the call from the only witness at the scene of the wreck which in turn caused six vehicles filled with a family already overwhelmed with grief driving as fast as the speed odometers would allow. The eye-witness told me on the phone as I was driving my mother was unconscious but coming to and breathing, but my mother never made it out of the car alive. Our mother was one hour away from home in a one car rollover, the car left the road and flipped, THAT ONLY EYE-WITNESS JUST HAPPENED TO BE A CPS INVESTIGATOR.

None of us realized that we would never have our mother by our side again and we would not be able to be with her when she needed us most.

Mom, we love you and we will never forget the love you embraced our family with, no one will ever fill your shoes (especially the bright green ones with flowers).

Mom...We Love You...

Somewhere in my heart, Beneath all of this pain,

Is a smile I still wear...At the sound of your name.
The precious word is "Momma" She was my world, you see,

But now my heart is breaking, She's no longer here with me.
God chose her for his angel to watch me from above,

To guide me and advise me and know that I'm still loved.
The day she had to leave me, Her life on earth was through,

But God had better plans for her For this, I surely knew.
When I think of her kind heart and all those loving years,

Because we're only human, They're bound to bring us tears.
She truly was my best friend, Someone I could confide in,

She always had a tender touch, a soft and gentle grin.
I want to Thank you Momma for teaching me so well,

Even though the time has come, That I must bid you farewell.
I'll remember all you've taught me, To put God above all others....

For I had no better teacher, than you.... My dear sweet mom.
Even though you've left this earth and had to take your flight,

I know that you are here with me, Each morning, noon, and night.
